ABOUT
The Journey
Mama Mzazi is inspired by exceptional mothers like my own mom, Sabreen! This woman right here is the epitome of grace, strength, and beauty. I am able to love my daughters effectively by God’s grace and her influence.
Believing that motherhood is a high calling that should be encouraged, nurtured, and celebrated, I have been supporting women on their motherhood journey as founding director of Mama Mzazi for over 20 years.
With the birth of my first daughter, I began to notice the laments about society’s often diminished consideration of the full-time mother, as well as tensions between some work-at-home and work-outside-the-home moms.
Noticeable, too was the lack of support for African-American at-home moms, especially. Seeking to address these concerns in a real and tangible way, I wanted to provide a nurturing community for all mothers, including single mothers and grandmothers helping to raise their grandchildren. Thus, in collaboration with my sister, Jamilah, Mama Mzazi was born.
Blessed with three amazing daughters, I have enjoyed the privilege of using my education, skills, and abilities to homeschool them through the twelfth, eighth, and fourth grades, respectively. My daughters are precious gifts and beautiful inspirations on my motherhood journey.
It has been my joy and privilege to steward my gifts, wisdom, and influence to minister to mothers and their families as they navigate different stages and circumstances of life. Also seeing a need in the community among families teaching their children at home, I established the Mama Mzazi homeschool support group which has benefitted from a diverse array of experiences including field trips, potlucks, mom’s night out events, guest speaker visits, and community service events.
A Howard University alumna, I earned a B.A. in Radio/TV/Film-Telecommunications Management with a Minor in Economics; hold an MBA; and have served in both corporate and government sectors. Service to my church and community through a variety of roles, including Women's Ministries Director, and CEO of Exalted Valley Ministries, have also been important to me. In addition to being a Certified Life Coach, I am a Certified Trauma-Informed Abuse Recovery Advocate.
With this blog, I want to encourage you with the wisdom and information I have gained over the years that I hope you can use as you live with intention caring for yourself and your family, mothering and educating your children, and in turn blessing the world!
I'm glad we're on this journey together!
